U.S. Bank Broadway Series at the Fox Theatre

ST. LOUIS, MO / March 16, 2008

Fox Associates announces a stellar 2008-2009 U.S. Bank Broadway Series, featuring Broadway’s current hit SPRING AWAKENING, winner of the 2007 Tony® Award for Best Musical. Disney’s latest Broadway smash MARY POPPINS will make St. Louis a stop on its first national tour. The much anticipated Oprah Winfrey’s THE COLOR PURPLE will open the season. Fox Theatricals’ own Broadway baby LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL, the all new CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY and one of the all time great musicals A CHORUS LINE round out the season.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA will return in the fall of 2009 as an off-series special with subscribers having priority access. Other specials include SWEENEY TODD (first time on the Fox stage), CATS, STOMP, HAIRSPRAY, RIVERDANCE and RENT, which will star original Broadway cast members Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp. Plus, the RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR starring the ROCKETTES will return for the 2008 holiday season for 38 performances.

The 2008-2009 U.S. Bank Broadway season opens October 21-November 2, 2008 with OPRAH WINFREY presents THE COLOR PURPLE, a soul-stirring musical based on the classic Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the Oscar-nominated film by Steven Spielberg. It is the unforgettable and inspiring story of a woman named Celie, who triumphs over tremendous odds to find joy in life, and her true inner beauty. Nominated for eleven Tony® Awards, The Color Purple is a landmark theatrical event. With a joyous Grammy®-nominated score featuring jazz, gospel and blues, The Color Purple captures the hearts of young and old, uniting audiences in a celebration of love.

It's here, and it's "An Elle of a Show" says Time Magazine. Produced by St. Louis’ own Fox Theatricals, the hilarious MGM film is Broadway's new smash hit musical, and now LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL is coming to the Fox January 20-February 1, 2009. Nominated for seven Tony® Awards, Legally Blonde follows sorority star Elle Woods, an underestimated blonde who doesn't take "no" for an answer. When her boyfriend dumps her for someone more "serious," Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style. After turning Broadway and MTV hot pink, this “Feel-Good Song and Dance Juggernaut,” (New York Magazine) is “The Best New Musical Around,” (WOR).

Broadway’s most talked about new musical and the biggest Tony® Award winner in years comes to the Fox February 10-22, 2009 in SPRING AWAKENING. This groundbreaking fusion of morality, sexuality and
rock ‘n' roll has awakened Broadway like no other musical in years. Winner of eight Tony® Awards including Best Musical, Spring Awakening celebrates the unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, a poignancy and passion you will never forget. For adult audiences, “This brave new musical has a shivery sensual allure unmatched by anything in the theatre right now” says The New York Times. Spring Awakening is being presented by The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and will be offered as a special to their subscribers.

In the ongoing tradition of spectacular touring productions, Neil Goldberg and Cirque Productions have once again reinvented the circus with European flair, imaginative theatrics and world-class acrobatics. CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY, March 17-29, 2009 is an all-new live theatrical adventure that takes audiences soaring into a magical forest through the air and on stage. An international cast of graceful aerialists, spine bending contortionists, vine-swinging characters, strong men and balancers bring this jungle dream to life in a lush, Broadway setting filled with wildly unpredictable designs, special effects, inventive choreography, puppetry and dazzling costumes. Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy is an exhilarating journey the entire family can experience together.

“What occurs shortly after 8 p.m. feels so fresh that you stop to catch your breath" says Ben Brantley of The New York Times. What occurs is A CHORUS LINE – the musical for everyone who’s ever had a dream and put it all on the line. Winner of nine Tony® Awards, including “Best Musical” and the Pulitzer Prize for drama, this singular sensation is the longest-running American Broadway musical ever. Now A Chorus Line returns to the Fox May 12-24, 2009. Come meet the new generation of Broadway’s best. “The chance to see Michael Bennett’s masterpiece again, or for the first time shouldn’t be missed” exclaims John Heilpern of The New York Observer.

Her carpet bag is packed, her umbrella is unfurled, and August 13-30, 2009 the world's most famous nanny will arrive at the Fox! Combining the best of the original stories by P. L. Travers and the beloved Walt Disney film, the Tony® Award-winning MARY POPPINS is everything you'd hope for in a Broadway musical—and like nothing you'd ever expect. Produced by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh, the show includes such wonderful songs as “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” and, of course, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” The NY Daily News hails Mary Poppins as “a roof-raising, toe-tapping, high-flying extravaganza!” Don't miss all the magic of Broadway’s super hit musical, and let your imagination take flight. “I loved the movie, but I love the Broadway musical even more . . . its magical!” exclaims Joel Siegel, ABC-TV.

The eight specials for 2008-2009 will be offered to subscribers for priority seating before their public on-sale dates.
