A Serenade by Brian McKnight & Ginuwine
The Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club is back at the one and only Fabulous Fox Theatre for a star-studded benefit featuring the smooth sounds of 16-time GRAMMY nominated singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brian McKnight and Soul Train Music Award Winner Ginuwine.
In addition to the great entertainment, funds support a vital cause, Mathews-Dickey’s strategic efforts to Build Together, Win Together by creating community alliances to close the achievement gap among young people through scholar-athletics.
The evening kicks off at 7 p.m. with a crisp one-hour awards show named in honor of the organization’s Co-Founder Martin Luther Mathews. There, everyone is invited to celebrate the achievements of high-performing young people, dedicated volunteers and generous members of the community and hear from CEO Wendell Covington, Jr. Then, it’s time for an unforgettable serenade featuring two chart-topping R&B artists.
About Brian McKnight
As an artist who needs no introduction, Brian McKnight has gained international and domestic recognition, earning himself a spot in contemporary music history. With hits like “Back at One,” “Anytime” and “Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda,” McKnight has released 16 albums to date over the past 20 years, selling over 30 million albums worldwide, and receiving 16 Grammy nominations. In addition to being a singer, songwriter, and producer, McKnight is a multi-instrumentalist who plays nine instruments including piano, guitar, bass, drums, percussions, trombone, tuba, flugelhorn and trumpet. McKnight’s most recent album, Better, was released early last year and he is currently touring the globe to the delight of his adoring fans.
Ginuwine first emerged on the music scene in 1996 with the multi-platinum disc The Bachelor. Described by one critic as “silky, seductive vocals purred beside Timbaland's jagged, hyperkinetic beats to create a uniquely edgy R&B sound," the album became an instant classic. “Pony,” the daring first single, peaked at number-one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, and reached number six on Billboard's Hot 100. He returned with the brilliant sophomore project 100% Ginuwine, featuring the hits “So Anxious,” “What’s So Different,” “Same Ol’ G” and “None of Ur Friends Business.” The delirious 100% Ginuwine was awarded Best R&B/Soul Album at the Soul Train Awards and nominated for an American Music Award.
